Warsaw: Green Cross Poland is the newest full member of the Green Cross global network of civil society organizations responding to the interrelated challenges of environmental degradation, insecurity and poverty.During its recent annual meeting, the Green Cross International Board unanimously supported a recommendation to upgrade Green Cross Poland’s status from that of a “preparatory committee” to a fully fledged member of the Green Cross family, which comprises more than 30 national organizations with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
President of the Green Cross Poland Board, Prof. Andrzej Mizgajski (pictured), said he and his staff, based in Warsaw, were delighted that the organization’s efforts since its founding in February 2010 have been recognized by the Green Cross International Board.
“Our work concentrates mainly on creating the dialogue platform for representatives of different groups, including business, engaged in the relationship between humanity and the environment,” said Prof Mizgajski. “We would like to share our experience and actively participate in international Green Cross initiatives.”
Adam Koniuszewski, Chief Operating Officer of Green Cross International, welcomed Poland into the Green Cross global network as a full member. “As Poland is faced with great environmental challenges, namely in the areas of energy and water, it will need to mobilize government, the corporate sector and civil society in the search for sustainable solutions. Green Cross Poland can become an important partner in this drive”, says Mr Koniuszewski.
Green Cross International, founded by Mikhail Gorbachev, is an independent non-profit and nongovernmental organization working to address the inter-connected global challenges of security, poverty eradication and environmental degradation through a combination of high-level advocacy and local projects. GCI is headquartered in Geneva and has a growing network of national organisations in over 30 countries.
